Talk:nearside

On a horse, the near side is the side from which it is led (the left side), the off side is the horses right side. In English tradition, this same convention is applied to other animals and to vehicles. The easy way to remember it is that a horse is led with your right hand, hence its left is nearest. Has nothing to do with the driver's side, which varies from country to country.

Well, so does the "nearside" apparently. This defines it as "the side of a vehicle nearest the kerb (in Britain, the left)". So I suppose "nearside" does have something to do with "driverside", seemingly being the opposite of it.
