There was a parody organization called The Institute for the Study of the Neurologically Typical, portraying autism as normal and NT's as deserving of sympathy. It's possible this two-word phrase predates the shorter neurotypical. We have a cite from 1997 already using the abbreviation NT, which could stand for either expanded form.
