Etymology[edit]

Must surely be influenced by -core suffix though? Equinox 00:15, 7 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I don't think an influence by -core is impossible, but I don't find any evidence pointing to such. I would also note that duo who formed the bands knew English as a second language as they are from Norway, so the connection may not have been as obvious in their minds as it is for a native speaker. Additionally, I would find such a formation somewhat confusing. I would expect it to mean something like "music characteristic of the night" which would be applicable to almost all forms of EDM. —The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 21:49, 7 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey there @NordaVento:, regarding your recent edit, I'm decently confident that the term nightcore wasn't actually formed with the suffix -core. First because the the term is a genericization of the name of a particular band it would be odd for a band to create their name using a suffix primarily employed for naming genres. Additionally the band explained how the came up with they name on their website at the time, as quoted in the etymology section. Specifically they say "we are the core of the night, so you'll dance all night long." This points to compounding with core being used in the sense of "key part of a thing". Let me know your thoughts or if there is something else I am missing. —The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 06:26, 26 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
