An old usage[edit]

The phrase is used very near the beginning of the 1934 film Death Takes a Holiday, but in a different sense, not flattery as defined here. A man tickles a woman's face with a flower, and she exclaims "oh, you!" — I suppose saying in a teasing way that she would expect such typical naughty behaviour from him.
