I deleted the reference to Oquossoc Lake because it seems the lake may have been named after the trout. That said, the scientist may not have known that, so i think its worth writing this down somewhere in case we restore it .... Oquassa is a variant of Oquossoc, a former name of Rangeley Lake in northwestern Maine, which still lives on as the name of a town, Oquossoc, Maine. These names are ultimately from the eastern Abnaki language, which we call Penobscot.
It would seem that the fish is not a species, nor even a subspecies, but just a type of fish native to a few lakes in the region, and therefore while we label it archaic, there is no new name to replace it with apart from the blueback trout which specifies the wider subspecies Salvelinus alpinus oquassa which is part of the species Salvelinus alpinus, the Arctic char. —Soap— 13:03, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
