Pronunciation

Does anyone have a source for the /ˈpɛː.ne/ pronunciation? It doesn't sound Classical at all. A source for the /ˈpai.ne/ pronunciation would also be appreciated, for that matter, because la-pronunc produces /ˈpae̯.ne/, [ˈpae̯.nɛ]. In the meantime, I'm going to replace the manual IPA with la-pronunc. AutisticCatnip (talk) 21:28, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

I'm not by any means what so ever a linguist, but [e] from English is not the same as [e] from Latin and it's daughter languages. Besides that, what I know from my Latin in gymnasium is that [ae] was spelled as [e] in the late Roman Empire, but I don't know if that was the case with every instance of [ae], regardless of it's place in the word.

One more thing, Lat.paene and PIE *pēy-('to damage, to be ill-meaning') doesn't make any sense. I think paene is linked to the slavic preffix po- ('near, by').
