Since it is an unusual construction, it could mean nearly anything depending on context. Par being the level you are supposed to stay below in golf, upping the par might mean to make something easier. On the other hand, most uses I can think of would mean the opposite - that "upping the par" would be meant to hold something to a higher standard (forgetting that in golf, a lower par rating for the same challenge is inherently more difficult.) In yet another context, it might mean that a choice has been made to move on to a more difficult challenge (a hole with a higher par is usually longer or more difficult, than one with a lower par.) --Connel MacKenzie 03:04, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
