etymology[edit]

w:pediplain claims that the second sense is from Latin pes, pedis (foot). One might think a more likely choice would be pedo- (soil), but Greek words usually do not take the linking -i- nor end in -ment. I'll look into this. It's possible our current etymology is the correct one and that there may have been some influence from the other two ped roots. Soap 13:35, 30 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
