Spelling[edit]

Ive a good hunch that this word is commonly spelled with ae even in America to avoid association with you-know-what .... I can turn up written materials that clearly show the ae spelling in use, but I wouldnt know how to show that one spelling is more common than another aside from just using Google, which isnt necessarily indicative of professional usage. I made the change today. I wasnt nearly as confident in myself three years ago but now I know about Google NGrams and how to narrow down Google searches showing that even churches and ministries based in the United States prefer the ae spelling and the pronunciation with IPA /i:/. This is, as I hinted at above, to avoid one particularly unpleasant association, but it occurred to me that it may also have caught on because paedo rhymes with its antonym, credo. It is worth noting that in the past, per Google NGrams, the pedo- spelling was clearly more common, but it has not been for quite some time. Soap 17:17, 21 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
