Sum of parts[edit]

This term can be argued to be sum of parts. However, it finds a fairly restricted use. On one hand, it refers to entities like states, countries, municipalities, and European Union; even Europe before EU was once referred to as a political entity. On the other hand, it refers to political parties and their candidates.

If this term were in unrestricted use, it would refer also to elections, votes casts, political programs, political campaigns, legislatures (parliament, congress), sessions of parliament, individual speeches in parliament, committees, members of the parliament, that is, all entities one encounters in politics. However, such usage is hard to find.

WordNet has "political entity" as a synonym of "political unit", which is defined by M-W in a restricted sense.

In my view, the entry is worth having if only for the quotations showing restricted use and for the link to WordNet. Dan Polansky (talk) 06:46, 5 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
