Rfd-redundant There is already an entry for "quenouille training". I found that it simply consists in modifying the tree's growth so that the tree takes a conical or a distaff's shape. There is no distaffs used in this technique, as it was written in the previous version of the entry. — This unsigned comment was added by 2A01:CB11:58D:2E00:A9AB:1EF4:656E:6305 (talk) at 11:05, 12 July 2021.

(I have added a different sense, FYI, whereby quenouille refers to the tree itself which is so trained.) - -sche (discuss) 16:15, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Moving this to RFV since it could exist (e.g. "the tree was subjected to quenouille") even though it probably doesn't. BTW: the entry was initially defined as "distaff", then changed to the training method, which was then RFDed; I then added the "tree" sense. - -sche (discuss) 16:55, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

RFV-sense for the senses "distaff used in quenouille training" and "quenouille training : a method of training trees or shrubs in the shape of a cone or distaff by tying down the branches". The entry initially had only definition 1, which was then changed to only 2 in diff, then RFDed in diff, but this is an RFV question since it could exist (e.g. "a tree subjected to quenouille" meaning "quenouille training", or "a tree trained using a quenouille" or "...into the shape of a quenouille or distaff"), it just doesn't seem to actually exist / be attested. (After the RFD I added a "tree" sense and citations thereof.) - -sche (discuss) 16:59, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Impressive work citing the shape sense. Regarding the first sense, The italics make me think that in "The system of quenouille or distaff training", quenouille = [[distaff]] (or, the shape), and not = [[quenouille training]] (because that would mean the citation was speaking of "distaff or quenouille training training"). I'm ambivalent about the other cites, which could be viewed fine or as attributive uses of some slightly revised version of the other two senses (~"a distaff or cone shape in which trees may be trained to grow"). Meh. If we keep sense one, then quenouille training seems SOP, since it is just training using this method. - -sche (discuss) 20:07, 19 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
