- We currently list both pronunciations for abscission and for fission, and in fact the pronunciation with the voiceless š is listed first on both, although I know that that doesnt mean that it is more common. There seems to be no rule governing the pronunciation of this cluster, though I would at least say it makes sense that it would follow the pattern of abscission.
