Restagno[edit]

Logeion shows a macron over the e in the L&S listing, which is the first that shows up. I hadn't verified it in other sources but it does seem to be an error. 3charles3 (talk) 14:48, 6 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

After corresponding with someone at Logeion who confirmed that the Lewis & Short has a macron over the -e-, I added that as an alternative form. 3charles3 (talk) 10:56, 8 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

It is definitely not a scanno--it was intended to be there by the authors--but I would consider it an error in terms of Wiktionary's conventions for using macrons (which are slightly different from L&S's). In some cases, L&S uses a macron on a vowel that is not currently thought to have been long, but that was in a syllable that scanned as heavy due to the syllable ending in a consonant sound. In the case of this word, the syllable-final consonant sound would be the S after the re-; other examples of this practice in L&S are its use of macrons on vowels before J and Z (as in maior, Trapezūs) or its use of a macron-breve before clusters ending in R or L.--Urszag (talk) 03:14, 20 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
