Why isn't verb "to root", meaning "to flash the ROM [of an Android device]" covered here?

Verb sense influenced Old Norse borrowing, or vice versa?

Since a usual sense of the verb "root" is "root out", could the native verb have influenced the related (but borrowed from Old Norse) noun? Alternatively, vice versa?

If so, is this potentially why the verb is not spelt *wroot? Tharthan (talk) 20:43, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

The OED does posit influence from the noun to explain why the verb lacks the initial <w>; IMHO, there's no compelling reason to assume influence the other way (verb → noun). Hazarasp (parlement · werkis) 11:30, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
