American/Canadian English Idiom?[edit]

I have never heard this expression used in the United Kingdom, but of course I have heard many times the other idiom that's very similar in meaning, 'Selling coal to Newcastle' (though almost never as 'coals to Newcastle'). So, maybe the expression/idiom 'sell ice to Eskimos' should be specifically defined as a uniquely American English one?
