Hello, by a roll of loose fiber

do you mean the handfull of fibers on the top of a distaff ("quenouillée" in french) - or a skein ("écheveau") in french) ? Both are loose enough...

As for the bait, a slim tongue cut out of a fish belly (usually a mackerel, so it'll be both glimmery & sapid) and skewered onto the hook, I've heard fishermen call it (& seen it written in halieutic magazines and books)  : "fleurette".

But as in in my dicos "fleurette" is related only to flirting ("conter fleurette") , and "flowery style", I do not dare to write it down in Wiktionary. Too bad... T.y.

BTW , I think "kibblings" refer to another kinf of bait, (i.e. milled small fishes, called in french "rogue" , & in spanish "carnada" or "raba"...) , different from the skin & flesh tongue on a hook. Arapaima 10:06, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
