Snow limit[edit]

Looks like this 1881 source attests to a use of the term snow limit for the snow line that is articulated in the existing Wiktionary entry.

I will just leave it here for the Wikitionary wordsmiths far more capable than me to decide if if might ever warrant an entry, or even a mere redirect to the snow line entry. Cheers. N2e (talk) 01:51, 22 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • 1881, Henry Inman, “Another Legend of Pawnee Rock”, in Stories of the Old Santa Fe Trail[1], Kansas City, Missouri: Ramsey, Millett & Hudson, page 94:
The night was cold, although midsummer, and we were huddled around a little fire of pine knots more than eight thousand feet above the level of the sea, close to the snow limit.
Nice find. Seems to have fallen off in popularity around the turn of the century. It seems there are also some recent-ish attestations, though a lot of the supposedly 21st century results on Google Books are reprintings of 19th century works. Colin M (talk) 21:27, 22 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
