Which is more appropriate...Southeast or South East? Context: We'll be travelling to Southeast Minnesota. — This comment was unsigned.

I'd say "southeastern Minnesota" or "southeast Minnesota". No caps because not a name of a definite place with a well-established boundary. The "Southeast Minnesota Water Treatment District" or the "South East Minnesota Antique Tractor Association" would be fine because an organisation can name itself or administrative units anything it wants.
