Which characters?[edit]

I would usually have understood this to mean formatting and non-printable characters, such as line feed, and not mere punctuation. Equinox 09:52, 4 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

@ExcarnateSojourner: I suspect this is a term that may depend on one's platform and background. The 1980s British home computers didn't even use standard ASCII character set, so we sometimes had to hack our printer "drivers" to get a pound currency sign £, etc. So maybe this is just a "sum of parts": it's special if you have to do something unusual to get it.
