splain[edit]

Really? I thought this was what Ricky Ricardo told Lucy to do. bd2412 T 22:38, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

That’s the only meaning I know for it, and it governs the accusative rather than the dative: splain me. —Stephen 16:54, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Numerous citations from well-known works (Forrest Gump!, Bret Harte story) available for "'splain" and "splain", meaning explain. Still looking to RfV sense. DCDuring 17:09, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
1882 Bret Harte, An Episode of Fiddletown: "I'll 'splain all in a minit," he said with a deprecating wave of the hand, "everything shall be 'splained." DCDuring 17:17, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I have cleaned up the entry, converted the RfV to RfV-sense, added the slang sense, and provided three colorful quotes. Nothing of the 116 mentions that Google Books had before 1900 were other that the slang sense or scannos. RfV sense not in MW3. DCDuring 18:37, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

The above information does not actually state what the RFV sense was. Trawling the article history I find that it was "The act of being hit on the head", which was duly deleted from the entry in 2008. Jnestorius (talk) 11:54, 17 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
