"... believed to cause severe birth defects" is unnecessarily weak--thalidomide has conclusively been shown to be a known teratogen.

Also, "was withdrawn" is misleading, since--despite the fact that the drug is contraindicated for use by pregnant women--it is useful in treating other pathologies, and was approved by the FDA in the late 1990s for treatment of leprosy. 98.202.71.249 07:02, 8 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
