'Theatre' as 'Operating room'[edit]

Note the use of the word 'theatre' in this BBC article: [1] "The WHO says power is needed to operate services including theatres, babies' incubators and fridges for vaccines." There seems to be no definition here at Wiktionary that covers it. From the context, it appears that this may be British usage for which Americans would use "operating room." Use of "theatre" in US is obsolesced[edit]

All of the style guides linked from this entry indicate that Theater is preferred and Theatre should only be used when part of a proper name.

However, someone forgot to tell the American people that, for 80% of the entries in any U.S. directory use "theatre", regardless of whether it is an organisation or building, live performance venue or cinema.58.28.159.85 03:08, 5 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Where does this "80%" statistic come from? How many definitions have the word "theater" in them, anyway? Your methodology is hidden and your argument is questionable.--128.187.0.178 03:02, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
