Alternate Etymology[edit]

Could this word actually be derived from Arabic اِطْمَأَنَّ (iṭmaʔanna)? The meaning is not too far off, and it seems to explain the presence of the extra n in -tumaini, and maybe even the first i after a, which would come from dropping the ʔ in the etymon. At the very least, maybe some sort of merger between both iṭmaʔanna and ṭamiʕa? Tamaani Ihaavi (talk) 12:07, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
