Rfv-sense: "A machine gun (from the noise it makes when firing)." There's an undated quote from Fredric Brown there, but I couldn't find anything else La más guay (talk) 22:39, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not cited. 1946 and 2012 are specifically uses of Chicago typewriter, rather than an unmodified typewriter. Incidentally, the full term refers to a specific kind of machine gun, so I wonder if the definition is too general. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 00:10, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the two Chicago typewriter cites to [[Chicago typewriter]]. DCDuring (talk) 00:52, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I can tell (and it is very tricky searching for this because of all the false positives) typewriter refers in general to a machine gun or submachine gun, while a Chicago typewriter is a Tommy gun, a specific type of "typewriter". *sigh*, I will go back and try to find a third quote that is not specifically the Chicago typewriter. Ok, this is now cited without recourse to the Chicago typewriter. Kiwima (talk) 01:06, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
