You misunderstand the OED's etymology. It's talking about "popular Latin" (what we call Vulgar Latin), in which I don't believe it has been attested. The word is, of course, attested much later in Latin, as a quick search would reveal. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 04:19, 31 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
