Yeggs used nitroglycerine[edit]

Some decades ago I encountered a definition of this slang word that specified that "yeggs" were a particular kind of safecracker — the ones that used nitroglycerine to blow safes open. That put them in a special category, separate from the ones who only used drills, chisels, hammers, saws, and other purely mechanical means. — QuicksilverT @ 17:29, 14 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Where did you read that? Equinox 17:31, 14 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

I just read Jack Black's novel "You Can't Win", in which I encountered the word "yegg" for the first time. The novel gives some information about its etymology, but I'm uncertain of its validity. I had a quick Google, and this information can be read here; the use of nitrogylcerine is also mentioned. Simmo333333 (talk) 16:53, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
