I knew that the link on WP to Baptisia was wrong for the quote. I looked on Google books to see what was called yellow broom. Sometimes common broom C./Spartium/Sarothanmnus/Genista scoparium has been called yellow broom. It is widespread in Britain where the old epic was written. The Portugal yellow broom, Cytisus striatus, with a paler yellow flower seemed much less likely. Also, it's a wiki. Having an entry to collect corrections and extensions seems wonderful. I wonder how many other species of plants worldwide have been called (yellow) broom by British naturalists and others. DCDuring TALK 00:17, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Between the Welsh epic and the association (folk etymology?) with Plantagenet (plant genista), it's hard to imagine what other plant could be the prototypical yellow broom in English. OTOH the Portuguese yellow broom Cytisus striatus is probably the one in the entry for maia DCDuring TALK 00:29, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
