Omission from documentation[edit]

I have asked at WT:BP what these fonts are intended for - and shouldn't the documentation above give details of why, where etc. —SaltmarshTalk 12:34, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Clarified as optional in documentation above. Rod (A. Smith) 21:36, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Appearance[edit]

The fonts dispayed above as Nos 1, 2 and 4 are (on my screen) the bog standards ones - but No3 is different - is there a bug here? —SaltmarshTalk 12:34, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

That was weird; a stray non-breaking space was being inserted into the CSS, invalidating it. Dunno why it didn't affect #3, but it's fixed now. —RuakhTALK 19:58, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

A query raised in WT:BP#Script templates: the italic form of the font is not so good, making the diacritic disappear into the top of the lamda in φίλιος, cf φίλιος. Even in non-itaklic form the font is smaller - at least it is on my screen/browser. Could it be enlarged, giving φίλιος and φίλιος. —SaltmarshTalk 10:22, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I certainly don’t object, but then again I don’t work much with Greek entries. Rod (A. Smith) 20:17, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

face=…[edit]

I assume this template should support face=head and face=bold by bolding, since {{el-noun}} is already hard-coding that behavior. What about face=term and face=ital? Should the text be italicized, or not? For example, in an etymology section, should this:

From {{etyl|el}} {{term|φυ||foo|lang=el|tr=fu}}.

look like this:

From Greek φυ (fu, “foo”).

or like this:

From Greek φυ (fu, “foo”).

I would say no italics for non-Latn terms. We do that on the French Wiktionary. Mglovesfun (talk) 23:38, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good. I'll wait a few days before making the change, in case anyone disagrees — the template is used in thousands and thousands of entries, so it's best to move slowly and make as few edits as possible (lest the job queue exact revenge upon us). While I'm at it, I'll also add support for lang=…. So, see User:Ruakh/Template for the proposed new version of the template, and User talk:Ruakh/Template for examples of how it would look. And, are there any other changes I should make at the same time? —RuakhTALK 03:00, 1 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
