Dutch[edit]
Etymology[edit]
First attested as thuli in 970. Potentially derived from either Old Dutch tiele (“agricultural land, pasture”) (derived in turn from Proto-Germanic *teula- (“agricultural land, pasture”)) or Old Dutch tiuli (“agricultural land, pasture”) (derived in turn from Proto-Germanic *teula- (“agricultural land, pasture”) suffixed with *-ja-). Compare Thull, Tiel, Tilburg and Tull en 't Waal.
