Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested as uttiloch in 790-793. Potentially a compound of a term cognate to Old Saxon ôthil (estate of land) and lo (light forest on sandy soil). A proposed derivation from Old Dutch ûte (out, outward) is unlikely because of the presence of -dd- in later forms.

Pronunciation[edit]

Proper noun[edit]

Uddel n

  1. A village in Apeldoorn, Gelderland, Netherlands.
