This article is about the sexual slang term MILF. For the M.I.L.F. rebels, see Moro Islamic Liberation Front

MILF[edit]

  • (slang) Mother/Mom I'd Like to Fuck: A (putative) mother or woman of childbearing age found to be sexually attractive

Usage in popular culture[edit]

The first use of the term MILF in popular culture, and one that gained widespread attention, was in the sex-comedy movie American Pie, and is used to describe a woman who from the age of 35-50 who may, or may not, be an actual mother, who is sexually attractive.

Internet pornography also has helped spread the usage of the term, as it is a commonly used descriptor for attractive mature age women, who may or not be actual mothers but are of childbearing age. It has become part of the lexicon of sexual slang, but differs slightly from traditional sexual slag in that it is not deprecating. The term is usually used as a compliment, and some women that fall in that age range even describe themselves by the term MILF.

There is a line of baby clothing produced by Pimpfants, a San Fransisco baby clothing compnay, that has embroided on the front "My Mommy's a M.I.L.F" (picture and product details available from Pimpfans Clothing),[1] and the term has truly been adopted, or co-opted by women.

MILFs in entertainment[edit]

The term MILF is a subjective one, and purported MILF-hood can be hotly debated. One can openly declare a woman to be a MILF, but this is a subjective opinion which may or may not be shared by others. It is impractical, without empirical surveys of the male community to determine every woman in entertainment that is a MILF, this list is by no means exhaustive. Where possible, any original research is attributed to a published media source. It is indeed likely that many women have been ommited; this list is not exhaustive

Several promiment, high-profile celebrity MILFs identified in print or online media include:

One of the earliest MILFs in entertainment was the famous (perhaps infamous) seductress from the film "The Graduate" known as Mrs Robinson. She is a mature age woman (played by actress Anne Bancroft) who seduces a young Benamin Braddock (played by Dustin Hoffman in the 1967 film. The myth of Mrs Robinson as MILF is continued in the motion picture Rumor Has It... released in 2005, which makes the ficticious claim that the novel Charles Webb wrote that inspired the picture was not fiction at all, but based on real life. In it Jennifer Aniston plays the daughter of a mother who inspired Charles Webb to write The Graduate, and she seeks out Benjamin Braddock's character, whose name is Beau Burroughs, played by Kevin Costner.

Origins[edit]

The origin of the acronym "MILF" was first coined as "Mother I'd Like to Fuck" it comes from Post Falls, Idaho. How do I know? I am embarrassed to say it but I made it up with a friend of sitting on a lifeguard stand in the summer of 1994. I apologize if I have offended anyone I never thought it would catch on. The acronym was spread around by lifeguards. Two guards from my beach moved away, one to California, the other to Indiana. I can only assume this is the reason why so many have heard about the acronym on both coasts of the USA in so close a time period. I can verify all that I have written and so will my friend who was with me on the stand that day.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there. This word was coined by a friend of mine (or me, can't remember) in 1986 while in high school in Philadelphia. I can produce many people who have heard me say the word many times in the period between then and 1994. It's totally conceivable that the word spread to Idaho in those 8 years. [8]

The movie American Pie is credited for introducing the term to the world. One of the main characters, Steve Stiffler (played by actor Seann William Scott) hosts an end of year high school graduation party for his fellow students. His mother, Janine Stifler (played by actress Jennifer Coolidge) is lusted after by every boy at school for her physical attractiveness [9]

During the course of the party at Stiffler's house, two people (who are unnamed) discuss how hot his mother is while looking at a photo of her. The transcript that follows provides a definition for the term, and is attributed for spreading the word amongst young men who form a large portion of the film's demographic. The actual etymology of the term is disputed, though it is believed not to have originated the term [10](that is to say, usage predates the theatrical release of the film).

’Jim Morris of “The Doors” (rock group of the late 60’s and early 70’s) wrote and recorded a song “The End” and in the song he says to his mother, “Mother I’d Like to F__You” and this is where the term evolved from. In American Pie, the kids take it from the lyrics as well. It evolved to meaning a mother that is sexy or a sex object to her son; step son; son’s friends, etc. Jim Morrson is well known for his morbid and irreverant lyrics and poetry. Song from which the term “MILF” comes from is “The End” in the song Jim Morrison is murdering his whole family and in his insanity, and sexualized drug craze, he wants to unleash all his inhibitions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_End_(The_Doors_song) Italic text''== Notes ==
