Usage

For use in the Etymology sections of an entry to show component terms from which it was immediately derived in the same language. It is intended to complement {{morph}}.

For example, referentiality can be broken down thus:

{{derv|en|referential}} ( = ({{morph|en|refer}} + {{term|en|-ence}} or {{morph|en|-ent}}) + {{morph|en|-ial}}) + {{derv|en|-ity}}}

by using this wikitext:

{{derv|en|referential}} ( = ({{morph|en|refer}} + {{term|en|-ence}} or {{morph|en|-ent}}) + {{morph|en|-ial}}) + {{derv|en|-ity}} OR {{suffix||ity}}

Using {{suffix}} utilizes the existing suffix category system and is preferred at this time. Note the omitted parameter. (Similarly, {{prefix}}.)

Categorization

This is intended to populate a set of categories with names of the form "Category:[languagename] words derived from: 'referential'[ ('pos')][ Etymology 'etynum'].

The optional pos and etynum parameter put the entry in a category named for the target section within complex entries that may have more than one part of speech or more than one etymology section.

Parameters

Positional (unnamed) parameters:

1. language-code
2. entry to link to, usually a lemma, could be a section of an entry
3. optional: display (if different from the entry to link to, as an alternative spelling or a non-lemma form or stem)
4. optional: gloss (brief specific sense or English translation of the entry or display)

Named parameters:

• sc= (optional) — script template
• tr= (optional) — transliteration
• pos= (optional) — part of speech (for naming category for derived terms location)
• etynum= (optional) — Number of etymology section (for naming category for derived terms location)
