Albanian[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Said to mean "the blind one", from Albanian verboj (“to go blind”), but this is most probably folk etymology. The term probably derives from Proto-Albanian *uērb-, from Proto-Indo-European *uer-b(h)- (“to revolve, twist, turn (down)”). Compare vorbull (“whirlpool”).
