Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Said to mean "the blind one", from Albanian verboj (to go blind), but this is most probably folk etymology. The term probably derives from Proto-Albanian *uērb-, from Proto-Indo-European *uer-b(h)- (to revolve, twist, turn (down)). Compare vorbull (whirlpool).

Proper noun[edit]
