Ido[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from English abbotFrench abbéGerman AbtItalian abateRussian абба́т (abbát)Spanish abad. The decision to use -d- instead of the more common -t- is to avoid confusion with abatar (to knock down, fell). Decision no. 1226, Progreso VII.
