Borrowed from French acquitter (literally “to free”).

acchitàre (first-person singular present acchìto, first-person singular past historic acchitài, past participle acchitàto, auxiliary avére)
- (billiards, snooker) to break off (to make the first shot) by hitting (the ball) so as to leave the opponent at a disadvantage
- (bocce) to place (the cue ball) in the right position to start the game
