English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Ancient Greek ἀκούω (akoúō, to hear) + φαίνομαι (phaínomai, to appear) + -metry.

Compare French acouphène, Italian acufene, Spanish acúfeno, and so on. The expected English spelling would be acouphenometry (cf. acoustic), but this term is mainly used by non-native speakers.

Noun[edit]

acuphenometry (uncountable)

  1. (non-native speakers' English) The measurement of tinnitus.
