Etymology[edit]

From Verb-object compound, composed of addormenta (to send to sleep) +‎ suocera (mothers-in-law). From the rumor that fiancés, when they visited their future wives, used to bring these candies to their mothers-in-law. Candies melting in the mouth would force the mother-in-law to stay silent, sometimes even making them drowsy.
