Etymology[edit]
From Verb-object compound, composed of addormenta (“to send to sleep”) + suocera (“mothers-in-law”). From the rumor that fiancés, when they visited their future wives, used to bring these candies to their mothers-in-law. Candies melting in the mouth would force the mother-in-law to stay silent, sometimes even making them drowsy.
