Etymology[edit]
Via other European languages, ultimately borrowed from Latin accentus, (ad + cantus), from the verb accinō (“to sing to”), from ad (“to”) and canō (“to sing”).

- (linguistics, usually singular) accent, stress (pronunciation emphasis on a specific syllable)
