arteriovenous malformation (plural arteriovenous malformations)

  1. (pathology) A congenital disorder in which arteries are connected directly to veins rather than through capillaries that distribute oxygen and nutrients. These connections, often called a nidus, can be extremely fragile and prone to bleeding.
