Borrowed from Italian assassino, from Arabic أَسَاسِيِّين (ʔasāsiyyīn, people who are faithful to the foundation [of the faith]) and the folkloric etymology Arabic حَشَّاشِين (ḥaššāšīn, hashish users; low-lives).
