- A traditional form of art from Catalonia, consisting of a comic-like series of images with text captions, often rhyming couplets.

From av- (“bird”) + -ica (relational suffix), with regular syncope of /ĭ/. Compare Latin auceps < *awikaps or aucella < avicella.
Attested in Avienius and late glosses.[1]
