From Balinese ᬩᬭᭀᬂ (barong) and Javanese ꦧꦫꦺꦴꦁ (barong), from Old Javanese baroṅ, barwaṅ (literally bear), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *baʀuaŋ (bear). Doublet of beruang.
