From Old Swedish bedragha, from Middle Low German bedregen, from Old Saxon bidriogan, from Proto-West Germanic *bidreugan. By surface analysis, be- +‎ draga, etymologically equivalent to be- +‎ dryga. Displaced native svika in this sense.
