Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *balbā + -ët, from Proto-Indo-European *balb-, *balbal- (barbaric speech), of onomatopoeic origin. Cognate to Ancient Greek βαβάζω (babázō, chats, talks indistinctly), Latin balbūtiō (to stammer, stutter), Lithuanian blebénti (babble).
