box man (plural box men)

  1. (aviation) The pilot flying behind the leader in a box formation.

      [] there have been an uncomfortably large number of incidents where a leader has flown his whole team into the ground. [] It had happened in the Luftwaffe with an F104 team, and many years later I saw it happen to the box man in the French Fouga Magister team at the Paris Air Show.
