Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Albanian *burmā, from Proto-Indo-European *bher-2 (“to boil, swell; to get high”). Cognate to Latin fretum (“a strait, sound, estuary, firth, channel”), Low German Bärme, and Middle Dutch berm, barm (“barm”).
