chip time (plural chip times)

  1. The time it takes to finish a race judged by the time calculated on a transponder worn by the competitor.

Usage notes[edit]

  • Race transponders measure the time the competitor crosses the starting line and finish line, irrespective of the starting signal. Generally chip time is not officially accepted as the race time.
