cocked hat double (plural cocked hat doubles)

  1. (snooker) A type of double of the called ball off three cushions, usually around the colours, with the aim of potting into the centre pocket while keeping the cue ball safe.
    Davis was left with a choice to either double the black into the top right hand pocket, or play the black around the angles with a chance of making a cocked hat double into the centre pocket.
