Inherited from Old Czech dáti, from Proto-Slavic *dati, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *dṓˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *dédeh₃ti (“to give”).

- to give [+accusative = something] [+dative = to someone]
- to put
- (reflexive with se) to start, to begin
- (reflexive with se) to let, to allow
- (reflexive with si) to have (partake of a particular substance)
