Adverbial form of older dicke (often, thick) (thus a doublet of dick (thick, fat)) suffixed with -s (adverb-forming suffix), from Proto-West Germanic *þikkwī, from Proto-Germanic *þekuz. Compare Luxembourgish dacks, Kölsch döckes (much, a lot), Palatine German deck, Dutch dikwijls.
